Although June is almost over, you still have a few more days to celebrate National Rose Month. We’re sure that a ton of roses are sold each February for Valentine’s Day (who doesn’t love a delivery of a dozen roses?), but that doesn’t mean  you can’t buy that special someone a pretty red rose to celebrate National Rose Month. Did you know that approximately 1.2 billion roses are sold each year? That’s a big business! Here are a few more rose facts for you to share over the next two days as we say goodbye to June and hello to July.

    • The rose has been the National Floral Emblem of the United States since 1986. It is also the official state flower of Georgia, New York, North Dakota, Iowa and the District of Columbia.
    • The rose plant is native to the United States and about 60% of roses produced in the U.S. are grown in California.
    • The largest rose ever bred was also in California. The pink rose measured approximately 33 inches in diameter.
    • Estimates report that gardeners purchase about 150 million rose plants worldwide each year.

Don’t have time to swing by the florist and pick up some roses for your favorite person? We’ll forgive you, as long as you head over to Facebook and download a Smiley Central app called The Flower Shop. With The Flower Shop, you can send a single rose (like on the Bachelor and Bachelorette), a rose bouquet, or even the classic dozen red roses. If your sweetie isn’t a fan of roses, there are many other kinds of flowers available in The Flower Shop. Now get out there and share some flowers because you never know when  your secret admirer may be sending roses to you!

  • Summer has Started at Smiley Central®

    smiley central summer diving board

Hey everyone – it’s officially summer! At Smiley Central®, we spent the entire day wishing we were at the pool. If you close your eyes I’m sure you can imagine it, too… Pavement so hot it burns your feet, waiting your turn at the diving board and having your friends rate your totally awesome cannonball, taking a break from swimming and getting a popsicle from the snack stand and of course, pool games!

Thinking about summer days at the pool got us talking about our favorite pool games from when we were younger. Of course the girls all said they liked to play “Tea Party” where everyone sat cross legged under water and pretended to have a princess tea party at the bottom of the pool. Other people said they loved diving for pennies or other toys at the bottom of the pool or seeing who could hold their breath the longest. Several Smiley Central® folks claimed they were the world champions at underwater handstands.

Here are instructions for our favorite pool game ever: Underwater Freeze Tag (better to play when there’s a large group of people)! Confine all Underwater Freeze Tag players to the shallow end of the pool and choose one person to be “it.” The person who’s “it” will swim or move around the shallow end and try to tag other players. If a player is tagged by the person playing “it,” they must immediately freeze and clasp their hands in the air above their head. This lets other players know that they have been tagged. A frozen player can only be unfrozen if another unfrozen player goes underwater and swims through the frozen player’s legs. Then, the previously frozen player may move around the shallow end once again, trying to stay out of the way of “it.” Every few minutes, choose another person to be “it”!

What are some of your favorite pool games? Let us know below!

Smiley Central would LOVE to get some feedback from our loyal fans about what we can do to help gauge your interest and get you to comment back!

Do we need to have the Glee cast perform Skip Smiley’s blog posts in some kind of mash-up?

Should we ask Taylor Lautner to take his shirt off and read our posts as Jacob Black?

Should Skip Smiley rehearse his blog posts while performing some kind of ridiculous ‘Minute to Win It’ stunt?

What’s a smiley gotta do?! This goes without saying, but we would GREATLY APPRECIATE some kind of response on the Smiley Central blog!

  • Top 5 Qualities

    Date: 2011.04.12 | Category: Twitter | Response: 0

Smiley Central would like you all to participate in this challenge: List your top 5 positive qualities- they can’t be physical characteristics or material goods. I know, I know…it’s a rough one, but it’s a good exercise for getting in touch with yourself. Feel free to tweet your qualities to Smiley Central’s spokesman Skip smiley (@SkipSmiley)!

Once you’ve listed your top 5 qualities, ask a friend to do the same for you. If they complete this mission and pass it on, we will all find inner peace and tranquility. And if you’re really lucky, maybe…just MAYBE, you’ll even smile!
